Evangelist, Jodie Rhodes, Talks About Selling DANNY

First things first, selling DANNY is fun.

Finding the right market for DANNY, however, may be problematic, but no matter where you attempt to sell it or whatever method you choose, it is always worth while, just for the fun of it. If you, like me, want more DANNY and as fast as it is humanly possible to receive it, it is essential to make others realise its genius. DANNY is a book that should be read by all and sundry, I would make owning a copy compulsory so everyone can delight in the genius that is Chancery Stone. So, with this in mind I thought I would go out into the world and preach the word of DANNY.

After receiving my box of books I had to decide where it would be best to sell them, and never having done this before I tried a few things before finding something that worked. First of all I tried selling at a book fair that went though local towns, a different one each month. A small stall was set up and DANNY was displayed on its own as a new book, but as the fare was for pre-owned books and had a more of a 'guide to fly fishing' vibe it wasn't the best place to sell DANNY.

I then tried another general book fair but a much larger one. This seemed more beneficial as there was a lot more interest in the book. I also found that DANNY would gain more interest at these sorts of fairs if it was one part of a stall instead of the entire stall. The stall at the second fair was set up as half DANNY, with the books, posters and bookmarks displayed to draw attention to the book but with the other half selling some of my own pre-owed books. Having the pre-owed books on the stall seemed to draw more people towards us, who would then take an interest in DANNY. It also means you can make more money from the stall and it helps cover the rental price and make profit.

Although selling DANNY at general book fairs is worth while if there are no other fairs in the area at the time (as it was in may case), Max Scratchmann (Poison Pixie's Marketing Director) suggested it would be beneficial to look into selling at art or erotic fairs. The customers at specialist fairs may be more open minded to DANNY, and a stall dedicated to a new book will look less out of place. An art or erotic fair will be my next port of call for the DANNY crusade. The only trouble with the latter is that they tend to get banned before their date arrives. I have looked into two erotic fairs so far and the don't look like they're going to go ahead, but if any do come up they seem like the best place to find DANNY fans. However as I've said there is some interest in general book fair, and the bigger the fair the better.

The alternative ways of selling DANNY turned out to be extremely successful. The first was to sell the books to friends or to anyone I thought would find the book interesting. Knowing the people made it easier to establish who would be open to the books as I knew their tastes so could appeal to them through prior knowledge of their predilections. I managed to sell just under half the books I had to people I knew and then sold the rest at (what I found) the most effective method to sell DANNY, at a DANNY party. I had two DANNY parties, one a fancy dressed themed pre-party party, which seemed to make sense at the time, but got a result as I sold a book to the only attendant that didn't already own one. At the main DANNY party I invited everyone I could think of that might be interested in DANNY and any friends that they wished to bring. Chancery Stone's publishers provided much merchandise to help the party along. I received specially made party invitations to hand out, and to give others to hand out to their friends, along with a giant set of posters to arrange a display of DANNY for the party guests to peruse. These will be available to anyone who chooses to throw a DANNY party (see below). It was suggested that it was a good idea to theme the DANNY party, and although there was much discussion around this, once a few drinks had been passed round our theme ended up being knives, which is strange, but I'm informed if a theme can be decided on beforehand the invites can be printed to reflect it.

The party to sell DANNY was a lot of fun, any reason to get together and have a few drinks is always worth while, and by selling DANNY you can also make money from the night and sleep sound in the fact that you've passed on the gift of DANNY to the masses. I sold the rest of the remaining books at the party and now have a new set of people with which to share the DANNY world. If anyone is interested in joining the DANNY crusade I can't recommend it enough, you get yourself excuses for a good few excursions and drunken nights of debauchery, along with making a handfull of cash. Most importantly, you'll be raising peoples awareness of the wonderful DANNY, and maybe getting your hands on the remaining volumes a lot faster. I strongly urge anyone considering selling the books to take the plunge and contact Poison Pixie Publishing Ltd.
